GRANTED PENSION, April 1 1904 Newspaper Article (as transcribed in "Do You Remember Campbell Hill" by Genevieve Dudenbostel Ruebke: By a special act of Congress; "Uncle" Tommy Joyce of this village has been granted a pension of $20 per month. He is one of the very few survivors of the Seminole war, and, notwithstanding his extreme age and total blindness, he has been receiving only $8 per month in recognition of the services he rendered his government some seventy years ago. A few months ago the citizens of this place petitioned Congress to pass a special bill for the old gentleman's benefit, and through the efforts of Congressman Smith, the bill was passed.
