CELEBRATING A LIFE Reverend Charlie R.

Butler was born September 22, 1916 to the union of Reverend Donaldson and Estelle Butler in Bunkie, Louisiana. He was the sixth child in a family of seven siblings. His parents and siblings all preceded him in death.

Having faith in an Almighty God, Reverend Butler began his Christian journey at First Union Baptist Church in Bunkie, LA where his father served as pastor.

On July 13, 1941, he married his childhood friend and sweetheart, Bertha Keller. In that same year, he began military service in the United States Army. Following an Honorable Discharge, Charlie and Bertha moved to San Francisco, California for a brief time and later in 1945, made Chicago, Illinois their home. He remained active with the 379th Veteran's Group until they disbanded in 2001.

In 1945 he united with the South Shore Baptist Church and worked diligently for the Lord. Reverend Butler was active in the choir as a key soloist and was known for his signature rendition of "Precious Lord." In 1967 he moved his church membership to Cathedral of Love Baptist Church, where he continued to be active in the choir and as a deacon.

He was led by the Lord to become a chartered member of Mission of Faith Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Eugene L. Gibson, Sr. in 1977. Reverend Butler accepted the call to Ministry and was licensed into the Gospel Ministry in January 1980 and ordained in October 1984.

He has served in numerous areas of ministry and leadership, iincluding Christian Education/Bible Study facilitator, Associate Minister, Associate Pastor, Assistant Pastor and Interim Pastor. At the time of his transition, he served as the Assistant to the current pastor, Rev. Michael L. Randle.

Reverend Butler's journey came to a close on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 when our Heavenly Father called His faithful servant home.

He leaves to cherish precious memories: his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Bertha.; daughter, Linda; countless nieces and nephews; godchildren, a host of family and friends, and his beloved Mission of Faith Church family.
