Walter A. Tompkins, 74, a lifetime resident of San Bernardino, died there Friday.
Before retiring he was a traffic signal technician over 29 years for the City of San Bernardino. He was a member of the San Bernardino City Employees Association and the Retired Public Employees Association of California. He was also a 52 - year member of the Native Sons of the Golden West, a past master of the San Bernardino Masonic Lodge No. 348 and the Big Bear Masonic Lodge No. 617, a charter member of the San Bernardino Scottish Rite, a past president of Big Bear Lake Shrine Club, a member of the Big Bear Sportsman Club and the Big Bear Elks Lodge No. 1787, the Al Malaikah Shrine Temple, and a past parton of the Big Bear Chapter No. 485 Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline; a brother, Albert of San Bernardino, and three sisters, Lily McKray of Devore, Elizabeth Poland of San Fernando and Lucille Follett of Yucaipa.
Masonic Services are scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday in Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, where friends may call after 4 p.m. today. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
