Harry H Couch, 80, prominent retired Ralls County farmer, died Tuesday in his home at Center. He had been in failing health for two years, and his condition had been serious for three weeks.
Mr Couch was born November 28 1855, in Hannibal, shortly after his parents, the late Whitney and Amanda Melch Couch, had emigrated from Pennsylvania. When he was very young his parents located in Ralls County, where he spent the greater part of his life. For many years he was successfully engaged in farming near Huntington, retiring about twenty years ago and settling in Center, where he was very prominent. Mr Couch was a staunch Republican, active in his party. He was a consistent member of the Center Methodist Episcopal Church, South. He had been for years a member of the Center Masonic Lodge.
In 1878 Mr Couch's marriage to Miss Elizabeth Stapleton took place. He is survived by the following children; W H Couch who is engaged in the undertaking business in Center, H W Couch, who operated a restaurant in Center; Mrs Effie Henderson of Oakwood; A F (George), of Center; O L Couch who lives at the family home; Hobart and Percy Couch of New London. Three sons preceded him in death, James, who died in the United States Army twenty years ago; Robert who died in infancy; Crawford Couch who died in 1918. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs Mac Hendrix of Monroe City and Mrs Henry Harp of near Center.
The remains were prepared for burial by H M Piper of New London. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon from the Center Methodist Church conducted by the pastor, Rev H P Anglin. Interment will be in Norton Cemetery, north of Center
