A German family adoped the baby and he was named William Francis Queener. His original family name was Smith. His biological father, Rufus Smith, and siblings traveled on to Texas, destination unknown.
William married Ada Francis McCullough on July 11, 1890 in Newton Co., Missouri. They had 5 children:
