Fred Elmer Ericson, 61, 1525 Van Dorn Street, former deputy state treasurer and candidate for the state treasurership in 1930 died at 8:15 o'clock Monday morning at a local hospital. Mr Ericson, a resident of Nebraska most of his life, had lived in Lincoln since 1927, when he joined the treasurer's office.
Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning at Wadlow's chapel, with Rev Howard Buxton officiating. Further services will be held at the Tekamah Methodist church at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, with burial in the Tekamah cemetery.
Born in Osco, Ill., Mr Ericson came to Nebraska with his pioneering parents, when he was a youngster. Mr Ericson received his education in the Cuming county schools, the Lyons high school, the University of Nebraska, and Nebraska Wesleyan university. In college, Mr Ericson was active in literary and debating circle.
Following his college career, Mr Ericson farmed near Tekamah for several years and then entered the lumber and grain business in Tekamah and later in Craig. Mr Ericson was united in marriage to Anna Samuelson in September 1904 in Saronville. Mrs Ericson passed away in 1913. In June 1919, Mr Ericson was married at Craig to Alice Mildred Shutt.
In 1918, Mr Ericson was elected county treasurer of Burt county, a position he held until 1925, the year the Ericsons moved to Lincoln. He was appointed deputy state treasurer in 1927, remaining in that position until 1930, when he resigned to enter the state treasurer election. He retired in 1931.
Mr Ericson was a member of the Tekamah A..E. & A.M. of which he was a past master; the potentate; the Scottish Rite; the Trinity Methodist church; was Sunday School superintendent in Oakland form 1903 - 1912; was president of the Epworth league and a member of the church board.
He was also a member of the Hiram club, Lions club, the Odd Fellows, the Tekamah country club and had served as a member of the Tekamah school board for several years.
Surviving are his wife, Alice M; a son, Emerald of Lincoln; a daughter, Marjorie Jean of Lincoln; and four brothers, Bert A of Arlington, Oliver and Roy, both of Oakland and George of Omaha.
