Samuel H. Ewing, one of fifteen children of Patrick and Lydia Morgan Ewing, who settled in Clay Township at what is now known as Ewington's Station in 1828, died at seven o'clock this morning at his home one mile west of the old homestead where he was born March 5, 1838.
Mr. Ewing was married to Miss Mahala Braden, daughter of Jackson, in 1859 and she survives after a remarkably long married life of 62 years.
Four children are left. They are Mrs. Albert (Jennie) Boman; Morgan J. Cortez and Mrs. John (Olivia) Gilberson of Indianapolis, and Mrs. Warren (Edith) Townsend. Also a sister, Mrs James B. Davis of Burney and a brother, Morgan J. Ewing of Sheldon, Illinois. One daughter, Mrs Nettie Champ, died several years ago.
The deceased was a resident of Clay Township practically all his life and was widely known He was a man of keen intellect and wonderful memory and was able to quote whole pages of choice gems in literature or repeat sermons or addresses almost word perfect months, and even years, after having read or heard them. His ability in this line marked him as a prodigy. He was indeed a remarkable man.
The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, from the Rossburg Church, conducted by Rev. I. B. Morgan, pastor of the Liberty Baptist Church, of which the deceased was a member. Burial at Rossburg.
