Carl Leeman Green

Funeral services for Carl Green, 86, of Thatcher were conducted Saturday, March 27, at 10 a.m. at the Thatcher LDS Stake Center by Bishop Randall Norton of the Thatcher Third Ward. Concluding services followed in the Thatcher Cemetery.

Carl Leeman Green was born Jan. 6, 1918, in Thatcher, the fourth child of Jesse Lee and Bertha Mae Morris Green. He obtained his education in Ashurst and Thatcher schools. Following his formal education, Carl worked on a farm in Pomerene and soon returned to Thatcher where he enrolled in classes at Gila Junior College.

In the late 1930s Carl met Ruby Phillips. They were sealed for time and all eternity on June 27, 1941, in the Mesa LDS Temple. Together Carl and Ruby made their residence in Thatcher.

In 1942, they relocated to Superior, where Carl worked at a Standard service station. In December of 1949, Carl and Ruby returned with their young family to Thatcher. There, they purchased the old Phillips home.

Soon after that Carl obtained his painters license. In 1956, Carl purchased property and constructed a service station on Highway 70.

In the early 1960s, the service station was leased to El Paso Natural Gas, and Carl returned to his duties as a painter and also began working at Don Pace Hardware. In 1967, Carl purchased the plumbing portion of Don Pace Hardware. He soon obtained his plumbing license and began his own plumbing business.

Although his work kept him busy, Carl's willing hands also served in various callings in the church including Elder's Quorum President, Branch Presidency Counselor and home teacher.

In the 1980s, Carl and Ruby were called to serve on missions for the church in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1983, Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1990 and later in the Mesa LDS Temple. Carl passed away March 22, 2004. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Carl is survived by his wife, Ruby of Thatcher; children, Catherine Ann Bigler of Tempe, Carl Edward Green of Duncan, Darvel Lee Green of Central, Carla Grover of Mesa, Joseph Rulon Green of Central, Jeffery Arnold Green of Central and Phillip Daniel Green of Mesa; three sisters, Joann Kempton of Tempe, Venice Coons of Pima and Olive Morris of Mesa; three brothers, Brooks Green of Safford, Harvey Green of Mesa and Weldon Green of Safford; 43 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.

A son, Richard Leeman Green, and a daughter, Geneva Mae Luster, preceded Carl in death.

Arrangements were en-trusted to Bunker's Caldwell Chapel.
