He served in the U.S. Army during World War II moved to Garden City in 1959, where he worked for Helmerich & Payne, Inc. of Garden City. He retired after 37 years as an oil field foreman.
Burroughs was a member of the First Assembly Of God Church of Garden City, Kansas, the VFW, the DAV and he was a former Oddfellows member.
He was preceded in death by three sons, John, Dale and Gayle Burroughs; a great-granddaughter, Nyla Thomas; two brothers, Ernest and Raymond Burroughs; and three sisters, Irene Northrop, Dorothy Norris and Isabell Gibson.
