He was the son of the late Edward and Catherine Hannon. He is survived by several cousins, both in Ireland and the United States:(Locally)Margaret(Peggy) and Wally Arnold, Steve and Abby Garafalo, Kelly and Scott Smith and his brother priests.

He attended:
-Blessed Sacrament Grammar School and Henninger High School, graduating in 1967.
-Resurrection College, Ontario
-St. Mary's Seminary in Kentucky
-St. Peter's Seminary, London, Ontario.

He was ordained May 10, 1975 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Syracuse by Most Reverend David Cunningham.

When he was a young man studying to become a priest he work with the children at The House of Providence in Syracuse often taking them on trips.

-His first assignment was associate pastor at St. Patrick's Binghamton until July of 1979 when he became associate at St. Brigid and St. Joseph's, Syracuse.
-1981, St. Mary's, Baldwinsville.
-1982 Immaculate Conception, Fayetteville, followed by St. Rose of Lima, North Syracuse.
-1989, St. Margaret's, Mattydale where he over saw the building of a new church.
-2001, St. Ann's in Manlius until his death 2010.
-2008, he received an award from the Village of Manlius for his work with youth.

His special assignments were as assistant to Co-Chancellors of the Diocese and chaplain to Family Court in Broome County. He was also the chairperson for the Committee for the Sick and Retired Priests.

Father Hannon was a dynamic, loving and faith filled person. His priestly ministry touched every person who crossed his path. His ability to reach children and youth was well known and appreciated by all. His warm and caring nature embraced all who came into his presence. He was especially grateful for his Irish Heritage to which he attributed his faith and his humor. He was in love with his God, the priesthood and all those he served. He leaves a mark on the hearts of all. He was in the comfort of Francis House when he lost his battle with stomach cancer Tuesday Feb.9th,2010. He is irreplacable!

The Vigil Service for a Priest will take place at 7 p.m. with the Most Reverend Robert Cunningham as Celebrant. Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Syracuse. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Priest's Retirement Fund, Diocese of Syracuse or to Francis House, 108 Michaels Avenue, Syracuse. Tait Funeral Home Inc.
