Douglas Durand Cornette, 60, died Jan. 18, 2010 in Albemarle Hospital. Born in Norfolk, he was a resident of Duck, from childhood. He was predeceased by his parents, Minnie Tate Cornette and Irving Cornette and his grandparents, Ruth Scarborough [#47987287] and Samson Douglas Tate [47987323], with whom he lived at Duck.

He was a retired commercial fisherman and an accomplished artist. His unique works of art are treasured by all who are fortunate to own them.

Surviving are four step-sisters: Brenda Matthews of Chesapeake, Beverly Brown and Bonnie Morris of Camden and Vickie Woolard of Duck. He also is survived by loving aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends in Virginia and North Carolina.

Graveside services were held Thursday, Jan. 21, in Austin Cemetery, Kitty Hawk, with Pastor Ray Wittman officiating. Twiford Funeral Homes, Colony Chapel, Manteo, assisted the family with arrangements.
