Maurine Carter was born July 17, 1916, in the Delphos community west of Portales to the home of Lois and Walter E. Archer and died February 10, 2010, in Portales. Mrs. Carter lived her entire lifetime in Roosevelt County. She grew up in the Kenna and Elida area and graduated from high school in Elida. On April 5, 1947 in Plainview, TX, she was married to Elmer Carter. She was a member of the Southside Church of Christ. For a number of years she worked as a waitress in local restaurants, including King's Café and the Kozy Korner. Maurine was a very outgoing and friendly lady, who enjoyed cooking and baking bread which she liked to share with her family and friends. She was also an avid quilter, and was constantly working on a quilt for someone.
Mrs. Carter is survived by two sons, Billy Keith Perkins of Portales and Randy (Sherry Molder) Carter also of Portales; a daughter, Janna (Drue) Harvey of Clovis; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Maxcine Reeves of Portales and Melba Griffin of Fort Worth, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Kenneth Archer; two sisters, Nathalie Graves and Eddie Murrell Beard; a son, Marty Carter and by her husband, Elmer Carter.
