Graveside services for Belva E. Holmes, 98, of McMinnville will be held Friday, February 12, 2010 at 2:00pm at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland. Pastor Lon Eckdahl of the Nazarene Church of McMinnville will officiate.
Belva passed away on January 26, 2010 at her home in McMinnville, OR. The daughter of Elmer and Lillie Wart, Belva was born March 08, 1911 in Baker City, OR and remained in that area throughout her school years. As a young woman, she and Willis I. Buxton, Sr. married and raised two sons, Willis I. Jr. and Rodney. They later divorced. In 1952 she and William F. "Bill" Holmes were married in Yakima, WA. Together they had a son, Leonard. They relocated to Portland in 1954 where Belva worked for a time at a Meier & Frank Dept. Store. Following Bills retirement in the mid 70's, they moved to McMinnville. Belva moved to Yamhill in 1995. There she resided with her son and daughter-in-law for 4 years. In 1999, she became the first resident to occupy Alterra Wynwood (now known as Brookdale Sr. Living) in McMinnville, and had resided there since.
Belva enjoyed her life as a homemaker and all that went with it including gardening and cooking, but her #1 enjoyment in life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Nazarene Church of McMinnville.
Preceding her in death was her husband Bill (1991) and son, Willis I. Buxton, Jr. (2007). Most of all she was a loving mother and will be missed greatly.
Survivors include sons; Rod Buxton (Glennyce) of Yamhill, Leonard Holmes of McMinnville and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
