Oren E. Smock, 96, of Queen City, MO, passed away unexpectedly May 27, 2002, at his home.

The son of George L. and Mary Margaret (Byrn) Smock, he was born in Schuyler County, MO on June 10, 1905.

In 1931, he was united in marriage to Berneice Wortman and to this union five children were born. In 1966 he was united in marriage to Helen Patton who preceded him in death in 1995.

Also preceding him in death were his parents, three sisters and one brother in infancy.

He is survived by his children, Jack Smock (Jeane) of Omaha, NE, Ronald Smock of Omaha, NE, Delbert Smock (Teresa) of Bellview, NE, Robert Smock and wife (Marlyn) of Huntley, IL, and Margaret Shibley (George) of Horseshoe Bend, AR; one brother, Leo Smock of Versailles, KY; a step-daughter, Irene Gosser and husband, Bob of Queen City, MO; along with 10 grand-children; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of cousins, friends and neighbors.

Oren started to work for Bill Hall Circus at the age of 17. After four years he went to work with the Highway Construction on Highway 2 at Keosauqua, IA and #71 out of Kansas City. Later he was self-employed as a painter and farmer. Oren will always be remembered for his sense of humor, his sharing with his friends, and his love of gardening and animals. He had many hobbies including fishing, hunting, cards, hound dogs and auctions.

Oren was a member of the Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Scotland County, MO, which he joined in 1952.

Funeral services were held May 30, 2002, in the Dooley Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Ben Wheeler officiating. Music was provided by Carolyn and Johnny Vincent. Debbie Benish, granddaughter, sang. Interment was in the Queen City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ronald Smock, Robert Smock, Delbert Smock, Jack Smock, Greg Smock and Danny Smock. Honorary bearers were Bill Byrn and Karel Collis.
