DEATH OF JAMES ENTWISLE SR. -- This venerable and much respected gentleman died at his residence, on Royal street, this morning, after a short but very violent attack of pneumonia. Mr. Entwisle was a native of Bolton, England, but came to this city with his father when a mere boy, and has resided here every since. He was at one time the proprietor of the old Alexandria Brewery, and even after selling it to Mr. W. H. Irwin he remained in connection with its affairs until it was burned. He was at the same time in the book business with Mr. Robert Bell. He afterwards formed a copartnership with his son, Mr. W. J. Entwisle, in the same business, which was carried on in the Exchange Block, on King street. He was at the time of death still a member of the firm of J & W.J. Entwisle, and for several years back had been discount clerk at the First National Bank. He had held the position of Senior Warden of St. Paul's Church for upwards of twenty years, being one of the most regular and zealous members of the Episcopal Church in this city. Mr. Entwisle was eighty years of age, and leaves a wife and seven children, besides numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He was a man universally respected for his well known probity and his courteous demeanor. Modest and unassuming in all the relations of life, every ready to help the needy and those in trouble, he passed from earth, after having faithfully discharged his duty as a good husband, kind father and honest citizen, leaving to his children the heritage of an untarneshed name.

TRIBUTE OF RESPECT
At a called meeting of the Vestry of St. Paul's Church, Alexandria, held April 11th, in the lecture room, the following preamble and resolutions were unanimously adopted:
Whereas it has pleased Almighty God to take from this world our venerable brother, JAMES ENTWISLE, Senior Warden, Registrar and Treasurer of this Church, therefore--
Resolved, That we deem it a duty to place on record our sense of the loss sustained by St. Paul's Church by the death of one who, for nearly sixty years, has been a communicant of this Parish, and for half a century has been Superintendent of the Sunday School and Vestryman.
Resolved, That we thank our Heavenly Father that for this long period our congregation and the community has enjoyed the example of a man whose walk in life was so consistent that no word of reproach could ever be uttered against him--an Israelite, indeed, in whom was no guile.
Resolved, That we offer the family of the deceased our sincere sympathy, feeling ourselves afflicted with them in their bereavement; that we will strive to follow in the footsteps of our departed brother, as we shall ever treasure the memory of his virtues.
Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions, certified by the Rector, be sent to the family of the deceased, and that copies be furnished the Southern Churchman and Alexandria Gazette for publication, and that these proceedings be recorded in our minutes.
