Ray Charles Kilpatrick, age 71, of Conyers, GA formerly of Murphy, NC passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at his daughter's home in Duluth, GA.
He was a native of Cherokee County, NC and the son of the late Charles Allen and Rilla Belle Palmer Kilpatrick. He loved fishing, gardening, politics, cars, and was an avid reader. He worked at the Sears Catalog Distribution Center in Atlanta, GA and later at Our-Way in Tucker, GA. He made friends with everyone he met, but his greatest job and what he loved the most was being a father.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Mitchell Dean Kilpatrick. He is survived by his wife, Martha Burnett Kilpatrick; a daughter, Edith Kilpatrick of Duluth, GA; three stepdaughters, Tina Christian of Conyers, GA, Teresa Pullium of Stockbridge, GA and Terrie Ann Slayton of Lawrenceville, GA; a brother, Robert David Kilpatrick of Murphy, NC; two step grandchildren, Heather Futral and Michelle Morley; one step great grandson, Christopher Morley. His final months were made easier by devoted caregivers, Cindy Buckner, Blanche Tanner and Marie Kilpatrick.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 25, 2009 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy, NC. Rev. Griff Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the Ranger United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dwayne, Gary, Richard, Dale, Pat and Fred Kilpatrick. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ernest Ledford and Lanier Moss.
