THE OKLAHOMAN (Oklahoma City, OK)
6/17/1922 (Saturday) PIONEER WOMAN OF STATE DIES AT ENID
Mrs. J.V. Admire Was Wife Of Early Newspaper Editor.
Enid, June 15—The death here early this week of Mrs. J.V. Admire, widow of the
late J.V. Admire, pioneer newspaper editor and politician, marked the passing of
one of the most widely-known women of the state.
She came to Kingfisher in 1889 with her husband, J.V. Admire, who had been
appointed receiver of the government land office. Soon afterward he left the
land office and founded one of the first newspapers in the state, the Kingfisher
Free Press, a publication that still exists as a daily. Mr. Admire was a
captain in the Union army during the civil war.
The Admires moved to Enid fifteen years ago, and three years later Mr. Admire
died. He was buried at Kingfisher and the body of his wife was taken there.
Death followed an illness since last winter and physicians said it was due to
the infirmities of age. She is survived by three children, all of whom live in
Oklahoma. They are James L. Admire of Hugh; Eli Admire, editor of the Oilton
Gusher of Oilton, and Mrs. Mina Admire Chatham of Enid. Funeral services were
conducted at the home of Pat S. Nagel of Kingfisher, who was a life-long friend
of the family.
This was kindly sent to me by Emily Jordan.
