Inscription

In memory of
ISAAC BELKNAP
who died Apr 29^th, 1815,
in the 82^nd year of his age.
Was a native of the town of Wolburn, Masfachusetts, and was descended from one of three Brothers, who came from
Lancashire, England, about the year
1625, and settled in Bofton.
He was a firm friend to his country
in her darkest times, a zealous
fupporter of American liberty.
A kind and affectionate husband,
a tender and indulgent father.
For about two years before his death
he became a bright example of
real piety, and died in the faith
of the Lord Jefus Chrift.

A flower, a vapor, a fhade, a fpan,
Serve to illuftrate the frail life of man;
And they who longeft live survive to see
The certainty of death, of life the vanity.

Gravesite Details

Many of the "S" letters are carved as the "Long S", a letter that resembles a lower case "F", but is totally different in meaning.
