Howard L. Cline, 77, formerly of Conover, died Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at Valley Nursing Center in Taylorsville. Born June 1, 1928 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Leon Augustus and Cora Belle Carpenter Cline. He was a member of Highland United Methodist Church in Hickory, had worked for twenty years with Steele Rulane and retired from Hickory Chair. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, June B. Cline; sisters Helen Newsome, Clara Hoyle, and Ruth Cannon; and a brother, Richard Cline.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2006 at Concordia Lutheran Church. Rev. Donald Oldenburg will officiate and burial will follow in Marvin Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday at Drum Funeral Home in Conover. At other times, the family will be at the home of Bob and Carol Cline in Conover. Memorials may be made to: Marvin Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 1344 Homestead Drive, Hickory, NC 28602. Part time caretaker of Marvin Methodist Cemetery. This cemetery was nearly abandoned. Mr. Cline, due to having family buried there and his own sense of doing the right thing helped care for the cemetery. Though he was mostly too old for the physical labor involved with mowing and leaf removal, he often arranged to have this work done.
