Anton was born in Ramsen, Tjøme, Vestfold, Norway, son of Andreas Hanssen Ruderberg and Kirsti Erichsdatter. He is believed to have immigrated to the U.S. in 1871.

See "Anton Andersons Arrive," The Belfield News, Historical Edition, 1962.

According to the above article, Anton married 1st, 1871, in Chicago, Cook, IL to Anna or Anne "Annie" Helena Melkeberg, with whom he had Arthur "Art" H. (m. Anna "Ann" R. Schuhrke); Albert; and Alice C. (m. William S. Yetter); m. 2nd, 4 Sep 1898, in Stark Co., North Dakota to Sella Larsdotter (or Larsdatter) Varberg (aka: Sella Larsen, Verburg, or Warberg in America).

According to the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index, 1763-1900, Anton Anderson married Anna Helena Christensen, 13 Dec 1879 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois. This is likely the same couple, as her father was Christen Svendsen and Melkeberg was the name of the family farm.

Thanks to Aad Roosken for confirmation of dates, birth place and names of his parents.
