RESIDENT HERE MANY YEARS
Joseph Callizo Called After Nearly Forty Years In Our Midst

Death has removed another familiar figure from our midst, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock Joseph D. Callizo peacefully passed away at his home on the Parrott estate, near St. Helena. Mr. Callizo had been in poor health for several months, but his death came quite suddenly, pneumonia having been the cause. His wife, two sons and daughter were at his bedside when the end came.

Joseph D. Callizo was born in Oloron, St. Marie, Basses-Pyrenes, France, March 19, 1854, of Spanish parentage. His boyhood and early manhood were spent in France and in that country he married, in 1880, Miss Yubaldesca Gimenez, a native of Spain.

Deceased came to California in 1884 and settled in Napa county, finding, employment on the Chevalier place on Spring mountain. One year later he accepted the position of superintendent of the Parrott place and the fact that he had been employed as such for the past thirty-six years is the best evidence that he discharged his duties faithfully. Deceased had reached the age of 68 years and 1 month when called by death. His life had been one of quiet industry. He was kind-hearted and devoted to his family.

He is survived by his widow, Yubaldesca Callizo; two sons, Julio and Salvador; and one daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Fromme. There is one granddaughter.

The funeral was held from the undertaking parlors of the J.S. Noble Co. Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Services were held in the Catholic church at 2:15, followed by interment in the St. Helena cemetery.
