According to a German birth/baptismal record from the Catholic Church of Oberteuringen in Germany, Philippus (Philip) Jacobus Haller was born to Michael Haller a farmer and Maria Anna Ruess on Saturday, April 27, 1833 at 3:00 a.m. He was baptized at 5:30 p.m. At the time Philip was born, one sister and four brothers had already died with two brothers and two sisters still living. Karlous would complete the family in 1835.
Philip Haller and his younger brother Karlous came to the United States in 1861. The ship manifest record showed Philip as being 28 years old and Karlous 25. They boarded the ship "City of Baltimore" at Liverpool, England occupying the "main deck." They arrived at the Port of New York on June 16, 1861.
We know that Philip and Karlous ended up in Muscatine, Iowa. Philip was married to Agatha Grossmann at St. Matthias Catholic Church in Muscatine on November 24, 1864 by Father Philip Laurent with witnesses being Joseph Kleinfelder, Wilhelmina Oaster and Catharine Hess.
The 1870 Federal Census finds Philip and Agatha living in the Village of New Lisbon, Juneau County, Wisconsin; 1880, LaCrosse, LaCrosse County, WI; 1885, City of Saint Paul, Ramsey County, MN; 1895, same; 1900, same. Philip's occupation was listed as a music teacher.
Philip died May 16, 1906 in St. Paul, MN. His death certificate shows he died of senile debility, nephritis and collapse at age 73 years.
