Some records say Lucretia Cathryn Cox was the daughter of James and Martha G. Cox. However research of Tien Lee suggests that:

"Lucretia was the daughter of John S and Martha G Cox rather than James Cox. I've found this couple with Lucretia in the 1850 census in Clinton County, Kentucky, and in the 1860 Census in Putnam County, Missouri. I've also come across this couple in a deed index for Putnam County, Missouri".

Lucretia married first to Francis Porter Ashlock on 26 Jul 1855 at Putnam County, Missouri, Francis' third marriage. Francis died in 1856. It is not known if Lucretia and Francis had any children together.

After Francis died, Lucretia remarried to the widower Adam Bennett Rothrock (1820-1891) on 29 Oct 1858 at Putnam County, Missouri. Adam was first married to Elizabeth Whitlow (1824-1852) on 11 Jan 1843 at Davidson County, North Carolina, and had four children with her, three of whom Lucretia raised. Lucretia and Adam were the parents of seven (six known) children, namely:

1. baby girl Rothrock (1859-young)
2. Rachel Caroline Rothrock Froome (1864-1888)
3. John William Rothrock (1866-1941)
4. Adam Bennett Rothrock (1868-1948)
5. Mary M. Rothrock (1871-1883)
6. Lucretia M. Rothrock (1876-1883)

In 1860 the family (parents, three children from Adam's first marriage and Lucretia's first child, a daughter, age 1, born Missouri, but no name listed for some reason) were living at Putnam County, Missouri. In Feb 1864 the family moved to Davis County, Iowa to escape Civil War problems in Missouri. On 01 April 1865 the family started by wagon train to Oregon. In 1870 the parents, daughter Rachel and sons John and Adam Jr. were living at Weston, Umatilla County, Oregon. In 1880 Adam, Lucretia, Caroline (age 16, born Iowa), John w., Adam B., Mary M. and daughter Lucretia were living at Greasewood, Umatilla County, Oregon.

In 1889 only the children Jesse, Sarah, Lewis, John and Adam were living. In 1900 the widow Lucretia (mother of nine, two living) was living at Weston Precinct, Umatilla County, Oregon. A Sarah McDougal (born Feb 1870 in NC, a lodger), was living with her.

Lucretia was said to be the daughter of James S. Cox (b. 1812 in KY, d. 1864 in MO) and Martha Gelson Lewis (b. 1816 in KY, d. 1875 in MO) and had siblings: Amarilla Winifred (1837-1858), Lucinda (Sina) P. (1839-1865), Leanne Elizabeth (1844-1861), Jerome Benjamin (b. 1847 in KY, d. 1924), John R. (b. 1854 in MO, d. 1892), James Hamilton (b. 1855 in MO, d. 1921), Mary S. (b. 1858 in MO, d. 1885) and Martha Elanore (b. Jun 1861, d. 1947).

A Lucretia Rothrock is said to have married Carl Schubert on 02 Nov 1898 at Walla Walla County, Washington. Was this another marriage for Lucretia? In 1907 Lucretia was listed as Mrs. Lucretia Maloney, of Weston. However in the 1900 census Lucretia Rothrock (b. Feb 1835, mother of nine, two living) was living as a landlord at Weston, Umatilla County, Oregon. In 1910 Lucretia Rothrock (age 75, mother of 8, two living) was still living at Weston. Her one or two marriages after Adam
B. Rothrock died must have been short or never occurred. Does anyone have any information on them?

Links to Lucretia's second known husband and five of her six known children are included below.

Find-A-Grave Contributor Shelli Steedman furnished the following:

Tien Le also submitted a different, more complete obituary (source: Weston Leader, 29 Mar 1912, Page 2):

MRS. LUCRETIA C. ROTHROCK

Death of Prominent Weston Woman Removes Another Name From the Pioneer Roll.

Mrs. Lucretia C. Rothrock, an estimable pioneer woman of this county, died March 24, 1912, at her home in Weston, from illness incident to old age.

Mrs. Rothrock was born near Albany, Kentucky, February 16, 1835. She was married to Adam B. Rothrock Sr., October 20, 1858. They crossed the plains to Oregon in 1865 and settled near Gervais. They came to Umatilla county in 1868.

Mr. and Mrs. Rothrock were the parents of seven children, two of whom survive. They are John W. Rothrock of Athena and A. B. Rothrock, Jr. of Walla Walla, both of whom are successful farmers. Mr. Rothrock preceded his wife to the grave on April 17, 1891.

Mrs. Rothrock was a typical pioneer woman of the Oregon country - the type to whose industry and thrift much of the husbandman's success was due in conquering a new domain for civilization. After retiring from the farm she lived for many years in her Weston residence, and enjoyed in fullest measure the esteem of her neighbors.

The funeral services were held Monday forenoon at the Methodist church where a very able and earnest sermon was preached by Rev A. MacKenzie Meldrum. The music was appropriate and beautiful. It included a baritone solo, "Face to Face," sung with much sweetness by Mr. J. N. Scott, by special request, and several quartet selections by Mrs. E. M. Smith, Miss Smith, Mr. Price and Mr. Scott. The rich casket of lavender was embanked with lovely floral pieces. Hiawatha Rebekah Lodge, of which Mrs. Rothrock was a member, attended the obsequies as a guest of honor.

Among those present at the funeral from other towns were J. W. Rothrock and family of Athena; A. B. Rothrock and family of wall Wall, L. C. Rothrock and family, Mrs. Arthur Gibson and William Roesch of Pendleton; H. C. Rothrock and family of Adams; Mrs. Sarah Thompson and Miss Verna Keppinger of Gervais, Oregon; Mrs. W. D. Parker of St. John, wash.; Mr. Jerome Cox of Cambridge, Idaho.
