LEBANON ENTERPRISE OBITUARY - 2001
Thomas Bud Mattingly, 95, St. Francis, died at 2:05 p.m. July 21, 2001, at Norton Spring View Hospital, Lebanon. Born Dec. 28, 1905, in St. Francis, Mattingly was a retired dairy farmer. He was preceded in death by his father, George Bernard Mattingly on March 18, 1970; mother, Frances Magdalen "Maggie" Green Mattingly on Dec. 8, 1972; first wife, Effie Lee Ruley Mattingly on Nov. 26, 1937; second wife, Mary Thelma Riggs Mattingly on May 8, 1988; daughter, Dorothy Vivian Miles on July 31, 1988; son, Gerald Bertrand "Jerry" Mattingly on Dec. 18, 1996; sister, Beatrice Mattingly; two brothers, J. P. and Cleophas Mattingly; and a stepdaughter, Barbara Ann Mudd. Survivors include: a sister, Cleo Mattingly of Bardstown; six stepdaughters, Laverne Masterson of New Hope, Jewell Hagan of New Hope, Betty Ballard of Holy Cross, Geraldine Lucas of Mt. Washington, Patsy Cheshire of Jeffersontown and Shirley Riggs of New Hope; two stepsons, Carl Riggs of Loretto and Jimmy Riggs of Louisville; three grandsons, Billy, Eli and Dennis Miles, all of Loretto; three granddaughters, Cathy Brady of Springfield, Gayla Edlin of Loretto and Cindy Miles of Lexington; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters and a number of step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was held July 24 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in St. Francis, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Frederick W. Klotter was chief celebrant. Sister Mary Ellen Curl assisted. Pallbearers were Herman Riggs, Joe and Steven Mudd and Billy, Eli and Brad Miles. Mattingly Funeral Home, Loretto, was in charge of the arrangements.
