SCOTTDALE VET'S BODY RETURNED TO STATES

The body of a Scottdale soldier--Private Vincent J. DeMatteo, 31 High Street--is among those which reached New York Wednesday aboard the United States Army Transport Corporal Eric G. Gibson, the Army announced. Most of the casualties on the transport had given their lives on the Normandy beachhead.

Among the 1,753 bodies to be returned from Europe, the third group since the start of the return program last October, were 166 Pennsylvanians. They included: Sgt. Nick P. Albanese, Vandergrift.

The Army said that next-of-kin will be advised of the time of the arrival of the bodies at the various destinations when shipment is made from the nearest distribution centers.
