Oscar Richard Fode
Oscar Richard Fode was born on April 29, 1910 in rural Burke, South Dakota to John and Matilda (Huber) Fode and died June 1, 1991 in the Community Memorial Hospital at the age of 81 years 1 month and 2 days.
He was raised on the farm and received his schooling in the rural schools.
Oscar was united in marriage to Elsie Lindwurm on May 5, 1935 in the Peace Lutheran Church at Carlock, South Dakota, and to this union three daughters were born.
They farmed southwest of Burke for about 30 years, moving to town in 1966. Farming was one of Oscars great loves. He also did a lot of carpentry work and painting. In Burke he enjoyed working for Nile Purvis and his work at the Burke Sale Barn.
Oscar was confirmed May 22, 1927 in Immanuel Lutheran Church at Jamison, Nebraska and was baptised in Zion Lutheran Church at Carlock.
When he was able, he especially liked to dance, with the waltz being one of the favorites.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Cecilia Fode and Elda Branam, one brother, Edwin, and a son-in-law, Jack Murray.
Oscar is survived by his wife, Elsie, three daughters, Norma Murray of Rohnert Park, California, Mary Anne and husband Delbert Carr of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Janice and husband Arvid Lindquist of Gregory, South Dakota, a son-in-law, Harold Stahlecker of Napa, California, ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, one brother, Erhardt Fode of Gregory, five sisters, Hilda Leslie and Frieda Hegge both of Burke, Hertha Freeman of Dallas, South Dakota, Della Faatz of Gregory, Edna Schwiegert of Tucson, Arizona and a host of other relatives and friends.
