John Posey Wilson, a blacksmith, married Mary Ann Hughes on 23 Nov 1833 in Perry County. John P., born 13 August 1809 in Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland, was the son of Zadock Wilson, born in (West) Virginia, and Elizabeth Stewart, a native of Maryland and daughter of Posey and Prudence Stewart. The Wilson family came to Ohio before 1814. Mary Ann Hughes, was born in Zanesville, Ohio in 1819. Her father, Andrew Hughes, was a native of Ireland and her mother, Elizabeth Roberts, was a native of Pennsylvania. The Hughes family came to Ohio before 1817 and also initially settled in Muskingum County.
John P. and Mary Ann raised a family of 13 surviving children in Somerset, Perry County, Ohio: Elizabeth Ann (b. 1835, married George Trout); Mary Jane (b. 1836, married Eli Clayton); John (b. 1838, married Mary A. Sheridan then Sarah Jane McKibbon); Emma (b. 1841, never married); Louise (b. 1843, married Pastor Samuel Baechler then Benjamin Shinn); Charles (b. abt 1844); Henry (b. abt 1846); Ella (b. 1848, married Henry Gaver); Albert (b. 1849, married Caroline Costigan); Amanda (b. 1850, never married); William (b. abt 1854); Thomas J. (b. abt 1858); and Frances (b. 1861, married Benjamin Rodgers).
