Bert Siegel, aged 22 years, with four companions, was bathing in Barney lake, 16 miles south of Cheney, when Siegel was seized with cramps. Two of his companions succeeded in getting him within 20 feet of the shore, when, becoming exhausted, they had to leave him and he sank. Help was summoned but nothing could be done until morning. The body was found in four feet of water. Siegel's mother is dead and his father is serving time at Walla Walla.
