Velma E. Kiester, 83, Lyons died Monday, Oct. 31, 2005, at Logan Valley Manor in Lyons.
She was born Nov. 27, 1921, in Madison County to Albert and Rosetta (White) Gugat. She attended Pierce High School in Pierce. She married Robert W. Kiester on June 1, 1948, in Norfolk, where they made their home. They moved to Beemer in 1957 and in 1960, moved to Lyons. Her husband died on Jan. 4, 1994.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Lyons, where she taught Sunday school. She also was a longtime member of the Eastern Star and was a Cub Scout and Brownie leader.
Survivors include: a son, Robert Kiester Jr. (and wife, Linda) of Lyons; a daughter, Linda (Mrs. Bob) Lichtenberg of Lincoln; two brothers, Leonard and Clarence Gugat, both of Norfolk; six grandchildren and three great-grandsons.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, a sister and a sister-in-law.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Memorial United Methodist Church in Lyons with the Rev. Ralph Ford officiating. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. today at Pelan Funeral Services in Lyons and will continue one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Lyons Cemetery.
