Geneva L. "Mama Jo" Aufdenberg, 96, of Sikeston, died at 9:10 a.m. Jan. 7, 2010, in Sikeston.
Born Nov. 6, 1913, in Sikeston, to the late John Adam and Ida Mae Hahn Andres, she was a homemaker , and since the early 30s she was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sikeston, where she was a member of Methodist Ladies Circle 3. She was a charter member of the Sikeston High School Red Peppers, played high school girls basketball and was a big sports fan. Also she served as an election poll judge in Sikeston, was a lifelong bridge player, was past president of the Sikeston Women's Club and volunteered as a "pink lady" at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
On Dec. 6, 1930, she was married to Raymond Louis "Gene" Aufdenberg, and he preceded her in death Feb. 18, 1985.
Also preceding her in death were: one son, Gene Aufdenberg; one daughter, Patsy Jean Aufdenberg; one daughter-inlaw, Alice M. Aufdenberg; four brothers and six sisters.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Judy Aufdenberg; one daughter and son-in-law, Lucy Jo and Dave Dealy; seven grandchildren, M. David (Karen) Dealy, Brian (Bernice) Dealy, Karen (Mike) Reynolds, Jeanie Aufdenberg, Alice (Peter) Devries, Scott Aufdenberg, and Bradley (Jennifer) Aufdenberg. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation was from noon until time of services in the Dempster Chapel of the First United Methodist Church of Sikeston, with Rev. Dr. Geoff Posegate officiating.
Burial followed at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston with Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
