Clara Florence Mannix Rhoades Stauffer, aged 76y 03m 08d, formerly of 316 Elm Street, Greenville, Darke County, Ohio, died at 2:05 p.m. Saturday, 22 Aug 1998, at Rest Haven Nursing Home.

She was born 14 May 1922 in Darke County, daughter of James Michael (1868-1925) and Mary Louisa Oberer (1879-1948) Mannix. Also deceased is her first husband, Eugene F. Rhoades (1917-1945); four brothers, an unnamed infant (1909), Ferdinand William "Fred" Mannix (1913-1922), James Martin Mannix (1915-1998), and George Jerome Mannix (1917-1989); and four sisters, Mary Louise Mannix (1910-1928), Margaret Isabelle Mannix Sommer (1912-1997), and Helen Catherine Mannix Barga (1919-1992).

She retired in 1986 as chief deputy of the Darke County Treasurer's office where she had been employed for 23 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Greenville and the Rosary Altar Society of the church. She was also a former member of the Business and Professional Women of Greenville, and was a member and past-president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary of Greenville.

She is survived by her husband, Robert D. Stauffer, whom she married 04 Jul 1952; two sons, Robert E. Rhoades of Greenville and Thomas B. Stauffer of Oldsmar, Florida; two daughters, Mrs. Steve (Debbie) Brandt and Sandra Hoying, both of Greenville; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, 26 Aug 1998, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Reverend Father John R. White officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Church Cemetery, Greenville.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, 25 Aug 1998, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, where prayer servies will be held at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary will conduct a Lodge of Sorrow at 7:45 Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Scholarship Fund, or to the Alzheimer's Association, or to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
