EVANS, Ga. - Debra Sue Griffin, 53 of Columbus, Georgia passed on to her heavenly home on Monday afternoon, February 1, 2010. Debra was born on June 21, 1956, in Lafayette, AL. Graveside funeral Services will be held at Abilene Baptist Church Cemetery on Thursday February 4, 2010 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Alvin Jones officiating. In lieu of flowers the family would like to request that memorial donations be made to the college fund for her son, Jonathan Scott, c/o Georgia Bank & Trust 406 Fury's Ferry Rd. Martinez, GA 30907. Debra was a mother, sister, chef, decorator, football coach, chauffeur, party planner, and loved to laugh. She loved life and loved her family. She will be missed more than words can express. Debra, a member of Faith Community Church of Evans, is survived by her son Jonathan, her sister Dianne Gay, her brothers Michael & Bobby Griffin, their nieces, Susan Jernigan and Sharon Jones. She is preceded in death by her parents the late William L. Griffin and Hazel Moon Griffin. She was a beloved mother, sister, aunt, and we will all wait the day we can be with her again in heaven. Debra died after a long chronic debilitating illness which came to an end rather suddenly.
She is buried in the Old Abilene Baptist Church Cemetery in Evans GA. She lived and raised her son for 18 years in Evans GA .
Jonathan Teal Scott was born in 1988 in Columbus GA and is married to KelleyAnne Grace Scott of Flowery Branch GA in 2010. They have a daughter, Debra's only grandchild, Hazel Grace Scott born on Mar 24, 2010.
Debra is survived by her brothers Michael of Columbus GA and Bobby Griffin of Phenix City AL and a sister Diane Gay of Evans GA born in Phenix City AL.
Debra's mother and father, William and Hazel Griffin are buried side by side at Lakeview Cemetery in Phenix City AL.
Debra graduated from Central High School in 1974 and worked at Doctor's Hospital in Columbus and other jobs through the years.
