John Allen Kile, 78, of Upper Tract passed away on Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, at the Pendleton Manor in Franklin.

Mr. Kile was born in Upper Tract on May 25, 1931, the son of the late Ervin Grant (Feb. 14, 1988) and Mary Cynthia Smith Kile (March 17, 1989).

He married Zola Florence Alt on Jan. 3, 1955, who survives in Upper Tract.

Mr. Kile was the former owner and operator of Kile's Grocery in Upper Tract, a member of Christ Central Church, a 1950 graduate of Franklin High School, a member of the VFW, Franklin Moose #769, South Branch Ruritan Club and Upper Tract Volunteer Fire Department. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War.

Also surviving are three daughters, Denise Hevener and husband, Dennis, Charlene Tennant and husband, Mark, all of Upper Tract, and Zondra Reedy and husband, Jeff of Moorefield; a sister, Nancy Jane Howery of Ashland, VA; five grandchildren, Devon Boyles and husband, Harold, Josh Harper, Caitlyn Reedy, Kyle Reedy, Danielle Hevener and fiance, Thomas Stevens; one great-granddaughter, Zoe Boyles; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Elva Burgess.

Rev. Edgar Null, Pastor Robert Tennant and Pastor Sam Harper will conduct funeral services today at 11:00 a.m. at the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin. Interment will be in Cherry Hill Cemetery, Upper Tract, with military graveside services provided by the Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Pendleton Manor, Upper Tract Rescue Squad or Ruddle Park.
