William Andrew Allen son of William Blackard Ward Allen and Katherine Davis

There is a discrepancy concerning William's first wife's maiden name. The book, "Legacy of Kin Hamilton Co, IL by Harold G. Felty Volume One 1859-1957- Page 206 Obituaries and Notices 1922-04, Times Leader 29 June 1922 William Andy Allen married Susan C. Hanlon 22 Aug 1874 - She died 1882 - leaving 3 children." This is a very well referenced source, however, I have family records and a hand written family tree written by Vernon Allen, William's son that states that William Andrew Allen married Susan C. Hampton on August 22, 1874. I tend to believe Vernon's account, he did extensive work on names and dates of the entire family. I can't imagine him making a mistake like that.

There is also a discrepancy in William Susan's date of marriage. Vernon Allen and the Felty's indicate that their day of marriage was 27 August 1874, however, a fellow contributor found documentation in the Hamilton County Courthouse that states that they were married on 17 September 1874. Where Felty's and Vernon Allen got the August date may never be known.

William and Susan, his first wife, had three children prior to Susan's death, they are:

Dr. Marshall Allen - born 18 June 1876 in Hamilton County, IL and died 22 May 1933 Walnut Ridge AR. - 1st Medical Corps U.S. Army.

Silas Allen - born 04 Aug 1877 and died 21 Sep 1905 in Manila Philippines. Silas stayed on in the Philippines after the Spanish American War. Silas went to the Islands in 1899 with Company D. 30th Regt., Newspaper account sent to W. A. Allen by Dr. C.W. Johnson, from Manila, Philippine Islands.

Mrs. Lula Allen Dial - of Dale, IL 1880-1925. Family records indicate that Lula died of T.B.

2nd William Andy Allen married Rhonda J. Crouse, 27 Dec 1882. Rhonda died 1916, They had 12 children. At the time of William's death 3 children had died; Loma (1888-1899), Mathel Frieda (1908-1909), and Bessie Allen (1896-1917).
