Death Ends Career of Mr. T. S. Cassels
One of Grady County's Best Citizens Dies Suddenly Wednesday
Mr. Thomas Samuel Cassels, 67, generally recognized as one of Grady County's best citizens, died suddenly of an organic heart ailment near his home about seven miles south of Cairo, Wednesday morning. His prostrate body was found by members of his family in the yard about 10:30 a.m. and death had come a short time before. He had been in failing health for about a year, but his death was a big shock to countless relatives and friends throughout this section.
Mr. Cassels was born May 28th, 1872, in what was then Decatur, now Grady County, the son of the late Sam and Mary Cassels, and spent his life in the Centennial community south of Cairo. Engaged as a farmer, he was conservative yet progressive, and his thorough reliability and ragged character provoked the admiration of all who kew him. He was a member of the Centennial Methodist Church from early life and had been a member of the Cairo Lodge No. 299, Free and Accepted Masons, for many years.
The funeral service was held at the Centennial Methodist Church, near where he lived, at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon, and interment followed in the church cemetery. Final rites were in charge of his pastor, Rev. D. B. Merritt, of the Cairo Methodist Circuit, Rev. Leland Moore, pastor of the Cairo Methodist Church, and Forsyth Bros. Funeral Home.
Immediate relatives surviving in clude his widow; five daughters, Mrs. W. E. Rehberg,
Mrs. H. B. Barrett, Mrs. J. F. Beckham, Mrs. Grady Singletary and Miss Mary Cassels; and five sons:
Fondren, Arthur, Roy, Perry, and Marvin Cassels. Numerous other relatives also survive.
