Son of Titus and Rhoda (Taylor) Curtiss, William was one of 13 children, He married 1st) Caroline E. Briggs of Rome, Oneida Co, NY Oct 17, 1850 and they had 3 children: Henry V., Ida Arabelle, and Utley Briggs. After Caroline's early death, he married 2nd) Mary M. Perrin Nov 11, 1863 and had 1 daughter: Mary Isadore (Dora). William lived on Logan Rd in Groveland, Livingston Co, NY on property jointly owned with his father. He lived with his wife, children, and parents until their deaths in a lovely two-story family home, which has since been deemed a Heritage Farm and is still lived in today. William was a Spanish Merino Sheep Broker.

William married 3rd) Cornelia A. Hooker Jun 15, 1876 in Poultney, Rutland Co, VT. She is buried in Poultney Cemetery in Vermont and died after William, in 1903.

William moved west to Los Angeles, California with his daughter, Ida, and her husband, Francis Butler. William purchased a large home in Los Angeles on 6th and Main and pictures of the parlor, where the family entertained the "Los Angeles Culture Club" on Valentine's Day still exist, though the home does not. Ever proud of his home town roots, William requested that "Groveland, N.Y." be inscribed on his headstone. And, his daughter, Ida, saw that it was.
