Mrs. Henry Borcherding, age 50 years and 18 days, departed this life, following a long siege of suffering, Monday about 9 p.m. Mrs. Henry Borcherding, nee Block, was born at Husum, Hanover, Germany, Jan. 8, 1879 and soon after birth was consecrated to God in holy baptism. After attending school and receiving religious instruction she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the age of 14 years by Pastor Meyer.
In the year 1893, her eldest brother William Block emigrated to America and in the year 1899 the subject of this sketch and her family followed, coming immediately to Bremer county, where they have since lived.
On February 5, 1903 the young woman was united in marriage with Henry Borcherding; Rev. Lobeck officiating. Shortly afterwards the young couple rented the farm northwest of Sumner, where they lived up to the time of Mrs. Borcherding's death. Mr. and Mrs. Borcherding were blessed with nine children; six sons and three daughters, who today with the father, mourn the death of a kind and loving wife and mother.
The family held membership in St. John's Lutheran Church since 1903. As long as her health permitted the late Mrs. Borcherding was faithful in attending divine worship and
in coming to the Lord's table.
Since suffering a nervous breakdown in 1915 the departed was a helpless invalid but so devoted was she to her church that many times she attended divine worship, being carried into the church by her husband.
Last February, Mr. and Mrs. Borcherding were privileged to celebrate with relatives and friends, their 25th wedding anniversary. On her 50th birthday, Jan. 3, Mrs. Borcherding was stricken with influenza which, with her weakened condition, developed into pneumonia.
Realizing that it would only be a question of time until the Lord would call her home and relieve her from all suffering, she longed to partake of the holy sacrament and looked forward fearlessly and hopefully to the end. The Lord called her to her heavenly reward and delivered her from all suffering on Monday evening at 8:50 o'clock. Her death is mourned by her husband and her children: Werner, Charles City; Arthur, Emilda, Emil, Alfred, Edna, Erwin, Elsie and Leslie at home; two brothers, William and Fred Block, Tripoli; one sister, Mrs. Ernest Mueller, Waverly, and many other relatives and friends.
May she rest in peace.
