"Uncle Joe" as we knew him was raised by my grandparents- Henry Ellis Shoaf and Sarah Loretta Miller Shoaf. Uncle Joe's mother, Laura Catherine Turner Shoaf died when Uncle Joe was 11 months old and four years later his father, Chalmers Sink Shoaf died. I grew up thinking Uncle Joe was my grandmother's brother and did not learn the truth until I was a grown woman.
