The DEMOCRAT, Olean, NY Dec 23, 1880 - "OWEN BLACKSNAKE, an aged and highly respected member of the Seneca nation, died at Red House (NY) last Friday morning. He resided at Cold Springs, and was at Red House on a visit to the council which is in session there. Owen was 75 years of age at the time of his death. He was a son of Old Governor Blacksnake, a noted chief of the Senecas, and was a preacher and teacher in his nation, and was held in high esteem by his people. The funeral services were conducted by the counsel at Red House, and the body intered (sic) at Cold Springs."
