Gloria M. (Lorenz) Lindauer, 73, passed away at 3:51 AM on Friday, January 29, 2010, at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.


She was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 19, 1936 to George James Lorenz and Laverne Rose (Stickley) Lorenz. Her mother died shortly after she was born and she was raised by Jo Chapman. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Carole Lorenz, in infancy, a grandson, Todd Vinson and a great grandson, Maddix Edwin Cole.


A 1953 graduate of Tell City High School, Gloria had six months of nurses training in Springfield, Illinois.


She started working shortly after in a bakery. Gloria married Leroy Lindauer on November 10, 1956, in Huntingburg. He passed away on June 16, 2007. She worked as a file clerk for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1955 and 1956. She then raised six children. Later she went to work Lincoln Hills Development as a Head Start aide, a nurse's aide, and as a stenographer clerk. While raising her children, she was a 4-H Club Leader and a Girl Scout Leader. After retirement, she worked out of her home as a seamstress making wedding gowns, prom dresses and clothing for her children and grandchildren. Later, she was still known in the community for being available for mending and alterations.


She enjoyed playing board games with her family, crossword puzzles, her pets, flower gardening and tomato gardening.
