Melvin Thomas McCall, 71, of Oxford, died unexpectedly Monday, Feb. 2, 2009. Born Oct.17, 1937 Melvin was the son of Ward B. and Helen L. (Carberry) McCall. Melvin was retired and enjoyed his hobby farm, raising cattle and keeping busy. Since relocating from New Bethlehem, Pa., in 1984, he was often heard saying, "It doesn't get any better than this." Melvin married the love of his life, Barbara Sloan, on July 5, 1958. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his three children and their spouses, Michael and Vanessa of Scottsmoor, Pamela and Grover Stewart of Oxford, and Robert and Cheryl McCall of Summerfield. Also surviving are his six grandchildren, Doug Stewart, Brendan, Cassandra, Nathan, Trentan and Lucas McCall; his mother, Helen; three brothers, Clair (Bub), Carl (Bay) and George (Ben); and three sisters, Maxine Brocious, Faye Marie Fratus and Garnet Pfaff; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Ward B. McCall. Visitation was Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009 at Banks/Page-Theus Funeral Chapel Wildwood. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009 at Oxford United Methodist Church and his final resting place will be at Pine Level Cemetery, in Oxford.
