Horace G. Whittier was the son of Benjamin Harvey Whittier and Sarah Weymouth Whittier. He married Emma Pierce French on Dec. 24, 1859. Emma was born in Candia on July 4, 1838, the daughter of Jonathan C. and Phoebe K. French. They had two children - a son, Herbert, died at 7 weeks of age on Sept. 8, 1860, and a daughter, Ardella J., born about 1862. Emma died Feb. 20, 1904.
Horace's two brothers, Lyman and Joseph were killed in the Civil War and are buried in the Whittier family lot, along with their parents and grandparents on their mother's side(John and Dorcas Weymouth). Horace, his wife, Emma, as well as her parents are interred in the lot. Inscription on monument for Emma's paremts reads: Jona C. French, died March 22, 1900 at age 87 and his wife, Phebe K., died Jan. 2, 1892 at age 86.
