South Range – Martin (Teenie) Iskra, 60, a resident of 1st St., South Range, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Portage View Hospital following an apparent heart attack at his home early Sunday morning. He was born October 25, 1917, in Painesdale, a son of the late Slava & Petra Iskra. He was educated in the Painesdale schools.
Mr. Iskra lived in Painesdale, in Kenosha, Wis., for two years and since 1951 has made his home in South Range. He was employed by Michigan Tech. University for 21 years as an equipment operator. He was married to the former Elsie Lombardi on March 27, 1943, in Abilene, Texas.
Mr. Iskra was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater. He was active in sports in the Copper Country & served as a coach in the Copper Country Junior Hockey Assoc. and also coached Little League Baseball. He was a member of the Holy Family church of South Range, the church council, a past commander & 25 yr. Member of the South Range VFW Post 6165 and past member of the South Range Village Council.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Jeff (Mary Margaret) Fitzner of South Range; a son, Martin Jr. of Trimountain; two grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Miller (Mary) Fleming of Painesdale; three brothers, Joseph of Ontonagon, Steven of Bessemer and Frank of South Range; and several nieces, nephews & cousins. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Holy Family church of South Range with Father Raymond Smith to officiate, Spring burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery.
