Capt. Nathaniel Austin was the son of Nathaniel Austin and Abigail Hovey. Born in Suffield, Hampshire, MA, he married Agnes Adams there on 16 May 1732. They had children Gad, Phenix, Diadama, John, Joab, Levi, Judah, Elijah, and Mary.
Nathaniel served in the Revolutionary War and signed "Declaration Against Great Britain" in 1773. He died Apr. 13, 1777 and is buried in Sheffield Plain Cemetery.
The cemetery is located north of Sheffield on Hwy. 7, on the left side of the road, south of Cook Rd.
