He grew up at Madrid, IA and recieved his education in the Madrid public schools and Capito City Commercial College, Des Moines, IA.
He and his wife made there home in Rhodes IA seven years where he was a council member in 1914 and was a member of the Rhodes Baseball Club. In 1915 he and his wife moved to State Center IA. He owned and operated the lumber yard until retiring in 1949. Since retirement he and his wife traveled extensively through the world.
He was a charter member of the State Center Lions Club, a member of Terrestrial Lodge No. 276 A.f. & A.M., State Center for 58 years, and O.E.S. 303, Life member K.A.A.B.A. Temple of Davenport, IA, Member King Solomon Council No. 20, R&S.M., Knights Templer of IA No30 K.T., Signet Chapter No. 38 of Royal Arch Masons, Marshalltown, IA.
