Esther Irene Banks died March 2, 1987 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, Nebraska at the age of 75.

Esther was born July 12, 1911, the youngest daughter of William and Sarah Reed Banks, at their home near Burwell, Nebraska.

She attended school at Burwell.

After her graduation from high school, she took the responsibility of caring for the family home for her father, her brother Dick, and her sister, Gertrude. She helped Gertrude in her work, driving her to visit country schools and tutoring students.

Survivors include one brother, Dick of Burwell; one sister Ethel Christensen of Wolbach; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and four brothers.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 4 at the First Congregational Church in Burwell with Rev. R.E. Buchtel officiating. Music was provided by Robin Anderson and Marty Robbins. Pallbearers included Conrad Erickson, Stanley Key, Edward Scofield, William Simpson, John Petteys, and Evert Combs. Burial was in the Cottonwood Cemetery.
