Helen was born to John and Gladys (Anderson) Pickens on Dec. 21, 1932, in Murray County. She grew up in several areas of Oklahoma eventually settling in Thomas. She graduated from Thomas High School and also attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

Helen married Robert Eugene Alexander in 1952. He preceded her in death on December 21, 1971. They had three children, Risa, Kathy and Robert.

She married Cleo Bilbrey on June 23, 1977, in Altus, and remained married until his death on Oct. 2, 2001.

She married Byron Shook, on April 6, 2006, and remained married until her death.

She served as President and Chairman of the Farmers and Merchants Bank of Duke, was active in the First Methodist Church of Duke, was a board member of the Rock Cemetery of Duke, and was active in the Duke Chamber of Commerce. Helen was also a charter member of chapter GU PEO in Duke and an active member of the Duke Town and Country Club. Helen and Bryon enjoyed traveling and spending time with family.

Helen is survived by her husband, Byron Shook, of the home in Duke; three children, Risa and husband Robert Parker of Houston, Texas, Kathy and husband Mike Hayter of Canton, Ga., and Robert Alexander and wife Marsha of Duke; her grandchildren, Cara Jordan of Austin, Texas, Cole, Sara, and Lauren Hayter of Canton, Ga., and Elizabeth and Emily Alexander of Duke; two brothers, Bill Pickens and wife Harolene of Derby, Kan., and Ross Pickens and wife Henrietta of Thomas.

Funeral services will be held at Lowell-Tims Chapel in Altus at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, with the Rev. Charles Stewart of the First United Methodist Church of Duke officiating. Interment will follow in Rock Cemetery north of Duke under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home

The family will receive guests at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m., Monday evening.

Memorials may be made to the Duke United Methodist Church, the Duke Tiger Band, JCMH Hospice, or the organization of your choice.
