Mrs. Phelps passed away Thursday, May 7, 1936 at the age of 64 years, 9 months and 27 days.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Fishel, she was born July 10, 1871, at Wood, Iowa, where she grew to young womanhood. On March 4, 1889, she was united in marriage at Elkader, with Wilbur Phelps of Colesburg. They began their home life on the Phelps homestead north-west of town, where they resided until retiring and moving to town in 1927. Mr. Phelps passed away in December 1929 and two sons died in early childhood. Surviving are six sons and six daughters.
During her active life, when time and health permitted, Mrs. Phelps took an interest in affairs aside from home and tasks. She was a member of the Local Rebekah Lodge for many years and also of the Twentieth Century Review club. She became a member of the M.E. church in 1923, under the pastorate of the Rev. W.H. Smith. Her last years were spent under the shadow of a great affliction. Now tired and weary of her world, dark and dreary, she has gone to a region more bright, she has entered the mansions of light.
Peace to her memory.
