Lois was born in Atkinson Maine, the daughter of Byley Lyford and Lois Lyford-Lyford. She and George were married on 27 June 1849 and moved to Quincy Twnshp MN in 1854. The family stayed in Illinois for about 1 year before arriving in Minnesota during which time their 3rd child "Willie" was born. Following her husbands death in 1875, Lois sold the farm and moved to an apartment in Minneapolis that she and her daughter Mary Emma maintained. When her daughter Alice Kate (Alice "Allie" Burnett #66624609) lost her husband in 1885, she moved to Minneapolis and into her Mother & sisters apartment with her 2 young children ages 5 and 2. "Mom" kept house for her daughters and provided supervision for the children for the next few years.

When "Allie" accepted a mission appointment to Utah in 1891, her children Agnes & Thomas remained in Minneapolis for a time and then Aurora Illinois with Lois son Horace and his wife Stella Rae. Later, they joined their Mother in Mission work until they enrolled at Alma College, Ionia Michigan.

In 1903, Lois became ill and Mary Emma eventually left her job to become full time care giver for her mother. During this period of extreme illness, Allie was also suffering and hospitalized in Chicago, but came by train to spend a few days with her mother.

This whole event of Lois illness and death was recorded in a 31 page letter to Agnes Burnett, Allies daughter, shortly afterwards.
