Born August 14, 1913 in Riverside, Utah, son of Leonidas Hamlin and Frances Catherine Frankland Kennard. Grew up in Logan, Utah, and graduated from Logan High School. Attended Utah State and Brigham Young University where he received a Bachelor's Degree. Received a Master's Degree from the University of Utah.
Met and courted Irma Terry Smith in Monticello, Utah, where they were both first-year teachers. Married in the Salt Lake Temple April 8, 1940. He was a music teacher for 37 years and in the Tabernacle Choir for 19 years.
Active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as Gospel Doctrine Instructor, Executive Secretary to the Stake President, Assistant to High Priest Group Leader, a temple worker since 1981, Branch President, and served missions in Brazil, Pennsylvania Pittsburgh, Taiwan Temple, and New Zealand Temple.
Survived by wife, Irma; children, Lon Harvey (DeAnna) Kennard, Heber; Gary Smith (Joyce) Kennard, West Valley City; Beverly (Ed) Christy, Salt Lake City; Deborah (Gary) Martin, Taylorsville; Paul (Diana) Kennard, Heber; 32 grandchildren; 27 great-grand-children; brother-in-law, Fred Nelson, Salt Lake City. Preceded in death by three brothers; five sisters; granddaughter, Julie Kennard.
Funeral services will be Thursday, 11 a.m. at the Granger 20th Ward, 2850 West 3835 South. Friends may call Wednesday, 6-8 p.m., at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and Thursday at the church, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment, Logan City Cemetery, 3 p.m.
